It’s been just over a year since I joined the Chicago Graphic Design Club as a Board Member—an unexpected journey that began with a single poster submission and evolved into something far greater than I could have imagined. What started as participation has become purpose: helping guide, shape, and celebrate our local design culture and the conversations that define it. Working alongside leaders like Christian and Cheryl—and our dedicated team of Alexis, Jeffrey, and our newest intern, JJ—has been both humbling and energizing. I’ve learned as much as I’ve contributed, drawing inspiration from design icons like Carlos Segura and Rick Valicenti, whose influence has long shaped my own creative path (and now I can call them friends). The more I give to this community, the more it gives back. As we ramp up for the third issue of Faculty, I find myself saying “yes” to every opportunity—because I’ve waited a lifetime to do work that feels this meaningful. Since joining, I’ve spoken publicly, been published, mentored emerging designers, and connected with extraordinary talent—all while finding and refining my own creative voice. Here’s to many more years of learning, leading, and giving back to the community that continues to inspire me. You can check out the CGDC and learn about all that we do here.
