Evolution not Revolution

Sometimes the most impactful brand improvements come from the smallest refinements. That was the case with a recent freelance project for Argonove, an AI infrastructure partner serving colleges and universities. Curious about the company's name, I learned it was inspired by the Argonauts—the legendary Greek heroes who sailed aboard the Argo in search of the Golden Fleece. Combined with novus ("new"), the name represents a modern quest for innovation. Once I understood that story, it became clear the existing logomark wasn't telling it. Rather than reinvent the identity, I refined it. Drawing inspiration from the sail—the symbol that gives a ship its power and direction—I created a more meaningful visual metaphor for progress and possibility. I also removed an unnecessary divider and strengthened the typography to give the mark greater confidence and balance.

It's a good reminder that effective branding starts with understanding the story behind the name. Sometimes a few thoughtful refinements are all it takes to create a mark that's more meaningful, more distinctive, and ultimately more valuable. You can view the work here.
