Mylo’s Alphabet

As a parent of two young children, I have countless cherished moments, but one stands out: when my 4.5-year-old son showed an interest in creating his own alphabet—and turning it into a font. His excitement was contagious, and I was just as thrilled. At this age, he’s diving into the world of letters for the first time, completely unaware of design concepts like serifs, sans-serifs, blackletter, or italics. His fresh perspective on letterforms and shapes is unfiltered and endlessly fascinating to me. We decided to turn his curiosity into a fun project. He handwrote all the letters of the alphabet, along with numbers and basic punctuation, and I transformed his creations into a fully functional OpenType font (and a web font). To add an extra layer of playfulness, we used his school photo and experimented with scanning both his portrait and the letters to create a series of quirky promotional images. Yes, it’s a little silly—but that was the point. If you’re curious about the final result or want to download a copy of Mylos’ Alphabet, you can find it here. We hope you enjoy it as much as we enjoyed bringing it to life! More info here.
